Patterdale Hall is a Residential Outdoor Adventure Learning Centre owned and managed by Bolton School, but available to everyone.
We are an AALA licensed activity and residential learning centre available for hire by all groups. We are based at the Southern end of Lake Ullswater within easy reach of population centres in both the North West and North East of England, and we have also welcomed clients from throughout the rest of the UK and overseas. We offer a fully catered service for up to 70 clients, although are willing to talk to any group no matter how small, and will tailor-make an activity programme should you require it. All our activities take place on the doorstep of the centre with no need to travel in minibuses and waste valuable time. We are ideally located with natural crags and a 7 mile long lake all within easy reach on foot from the centre. Our 80 acres of extensive grounds allow access straight onto the Lakeland fells for walking, mountaineering and so much more. We have an adventurous gorge that flows through the grounds of the estate.
The instructors were fantastic. So friendly + enthusiastic. The location and all the activities were amazing. Gorge walking was my personal favourite! Thanks you to all the Patterdale Hall staff for such an amazing experience for my NCS team.
Amazing staff, fabulous food and brill location.
The food was amazing! The hall and garden are both stunning locations. All the staff, instructors, cooks etc. are extremely helpful and welcoming. Superb location all round.
The only thing better than the excellent location of Patterdale Hall is the welcoming staff and brilliant food. Both the centre staff and instructors worked hard to ensure that the NCS had an amazing experience. I would like to say a huge thank you and hope to be back soon.
I just wanted to email to say thank you so much for everything you did for us last week. The kids and I absolutely loved every minute and we couldn’t have asked for any more in a residential trip. The staff in the centre (Jane and the cooks etc) were amazing, the food was beautiful and the accomodation was the best I have ever stayed in when on a school trip. The centre is stunning. I also wanted to thank you personally for the loan of clothing and equipment whilst I was there! I wanted to make a special mention for Kris group 1’s instructor. He was amazing! His manner with the children was second to none and he was patient and calm as well as being able to have a joke too. He was one of those people whose ways have gone on to influence my own. I honestly can’t speak highly enough of him and the value he added to the children’s (and my) experience! I wish I didn’t have to go on the Thursday! I know the kids will have made memories that will last a lifetime and you guys have been instrumental in this and we thank you enough! Patterdale will 100% be being recommended by me! Hope to see you in October when our school is back again 🙂 Have a great summer! Thanks Mr Jones Parbold Douglas C of E Academy
The staff at Patterdale Hall have been brilliant and have really accommodating to our every need! Thanks you!
Awesome Facilities! Awesome Activities! Awesome food! (Better than local competition) Awesome friendly staff!
Our year 6 pupils have attended for Adventure Learning at Patterdale Hall for over 15 years. We have always found the structured experiential learning programmes to work excellently at developing self confidence, teamwork and leadership skills, whilst setting them up well to transition to secondary school. Using a challenge by choice ethos and high staff ratios the activity tutors are able to individually challenge our pupils, so that they all take the most away possible. I highly recommend Patterdale Hall.
Fantastic food, stunning location and incredible facilities. I couldn’t fault the staff. They all have [been] perfect with our young people, visiting staff and most importantly each other! Don’t change a thing, we will miss this place and I’d love to come back.
Thank you so much for making our first week of the challenge really special. Gwyn
